How good are you at celebrating your achievements?
Do you acknowledge what you're skillful at, and all the great stuff you've already done?
We often think of this kind of reflection as being egotistical, even selfish. But really, celebrating what you achieve is a crucial part of happily moving forward in business - and in life.
Think about it. On some level, almost everything you do - in your work, your relationships, even your play time - is motivated by the desire for contentment. We all like to feel a sense of skill and completion. It makes it easier to rest and relax when you know you've accomplished your mission that day.
But where does that feeling of contentment come from? Does it just arise naturally, as something that happens to you? Or do you make time for it consciously?
Sometimes it can happen organically. But oftentimes, our achievements just get overtaken by the next set of goals. And when life is moving fast, that doesn't leave much time for relaxing or enjoying the fruits of your work. So the cycle goes on and on.
Bad news: if you're always waiting for that magical time when you're finished with all your goals and you can just relax... you're going to be waiting a long time. Life never stops to give you a coffee break.
The good news is that if you want to experience more contentment in your life, it just takes practice! The video above is about taking a few minutes of your day to celebrate what you've already done, and let yourself be happy about it!
It might sound cute, but don't underestimate the power of this one. When I'm feeling stuck, a little dose of recognition, respect and contentment is often exactly what I need to get moving again.
So give it a try! Celebrate yourself today, and see how it feels.
P.S. Let me know how it goes in the comments below! I'd love to hear your experience. And if you're already an expert self-celebrator: what are your favorite ways to practice? How do you treat yourself for being brilliant?
